"Unleash The Kraken!"

...is what we would say if we were releasing a sea monster into the crowd on October 17th at The Social in Orlando, FL. Instead we will be releasing our new CD "Waking Vessels."

Because, you know - "Unleash Waking Vessels" or "Unleash the New E.P." don't have quite the same ring to them.

SO YEAH - this is actually happening.
***WARNING***
Prepare yourself for excitement overload...because we are SUPER excited already.  This is our C.D. Release, after all. It's our party and we'll cry if we want to. We probably WILL cry because this has been a lot of work. Artwork, copyrights, videos, merchandise, Kickstarter rewards, and more: these are the things that have haunted both our dreams and our waking moments*, so when we start crying please don't make fun of us too much. I mean, we have just been doing too much stuff.  Crazy stuff. Want to see? Okay, if you say so...

You should start believing us when we say things are crazy, I mean that video says it all. Anyway, I know we're supposed to be all ostentatious and talk about ourselves, but if you want to get an idea of what's in store then CHECK THIS OUT.  (Grab your popcorn, kids!  It's movie-time).

"Daybreak Embrace" also has a new CD coming out - and this is the single! These guys just can't contain their awesomeness, it's probably a good thing they don't live in Orlando because we would get into way too much trouble together.  #hearts

"Burn After Reading" is one of the most meedley-meedley bands in Central Florida!  And we'd certainly hope so.  They are rockin' three guitars, a booming rhythm section, and awesome hair-cuts.  (Well...that's subjective). #mohawks

"Blaine the Mono" is a killer jazzy-rock quartet and a staple of the local scene!  Their bassist has a shirt with a kitty cat on it.  That's worth a pre-sale ticket in itself.  (No really - it's a good shirt). #kittycat

OH HEY - ...did we mention our new CD is coming out?

*Get it?

Fact of the Week: The single from our new album  entitled "Red Eyes (of Thoughts Awry)" will be premiering with the release of the music video next Tuesday, September 24th. The original title of this song was "Pentaclopse". We think that would imply a five-eyed monster of some kind. I forget why this was the original title. Don't place too much thought into this... after all the single on our Previous E.P., "Live While Sleeping" was originally titled "Poop Monster"...

What the hell, this monster is cute, has five eyes, and it's getting sorta close to Halloween. Woohoo!

We're coming out! (of our studio cave)

This marks an end to the the longest 'radio silence' era we have ever gone through as a band. Trust me, we've missed you guys more than you've missed our posts. We just wanted to begin by putting that on the record. So, our recordings are done and HOLY CRAP! We want to jump with joy, cry, brag, and probably even riot over how much we love them. Working with James Paul Wisner was a treat since he is an awesome guy, but it was also a privilege to work with such a gifted and ambitious producer. He blew our hair back (which pissed Tara off cause she had a bad hair day as a result). There is MUCH more to come on that, but it will be some time before we can reveal too much about this next CD as we will be spending the coming months working on artwork, mastering, publishing, duplication, a music video, and of course booking a CD release party! In the mean-time we have another non-EP-related show coming up...

That's right boys and girls! We have the pleasure of opening up for Nico Vega and Crash Kings in our home town. You guys should think about coming out because again, we've missed you. We have seen some of you around at shows like the many awesome shows from this past weekend but there are still a lot of faces that we haven't seen in way too long. We want to high five you, have a drink with you, have a staring contest with you, argue about movies with you; you know, the usual. It's important for us to return to normality.

It may be weird to see us while we're still in our pre-EP release cocoons but we're still cool, we promise. In fact, we are just about to get a lot cooler. We hope anyway. If you don't like our pretty new music we'll probably cry, give up, run away, hide, and then start a cult and then not invite you to be in it. No one wants that to happen so just like it, okay? At least tell us you do because if not we'll probably get a complex and start acting like caterpillars* again instead of butterflies. If it means people won't want to hang out with us anymore then it will be all your fault. So, now you know what's at stake.

Anyway, you can expect some cool studio videos from us in a couple of weeks. Various other goodies will follow such as your KICKSTARTER REWARDS! Oh, what? You forgot about the fact that we owe you stuff? Well then we are going to jog your memory with vigor! Oh yes, there will be many goodies coming to you all in the coming months. As a matter of fact we have one for those of you that took the time to read this blog entry. Are you ready? This will be the first public announcement of the title of our new CD. Wait for it... Wait for it...

The title of our next six-song EP is "Moments Waking Vessels". Want to know what it means? Then you had better stay tuned. Nobody likes it when something is out of tune. Thanks for reaching the end of this blog, we know how hard that can be. We hope it was worth it!

*We apologize to any and all caterpillar readers and caterpillar enthusiasts who may be offended by this post, however we believe it is not unfair to assume that most people consider the butterfly to be a little more visually striking than it's pre-metamorphic counter-part. We in A Brilliant Lie believe that although the butterfly is in fact prettier, the caterpillar is "cuter". After all it is pretty much the tortoise* of the insects.

*We also would like to apologize to any tortoise readers and tortoise enthusiasts who were slighted by our comparison of the tortoise to the caterpillar. The Tortoise may not have a metaphorical state of glamour as distinct as the butterfly, but it is certainly cuter than the caterpillar*.

*No caterpillars, we are not apologizing for that one, you just aren't as cute as tortoises. I mean seriously...

...must we also point out the resemblance and similarities between the tortoise and the teenage mutant ninja... well, you know =).

Fact of the week: When Tim drinks hair gets taller, but when Tara drinks her right eyebrow gets distinctively lower than her left. This observation was brought to you by none other than Tara herself. #selfaware

Operation: Yee to the Haw

A Brilliant Lie has gone county. No, seriously...

The response to our Kickstarter in just the past 24 hours has been amazing. We really think we can do this thing! There will be copious "thank you"s in the coming months but we can't help but say we are humbled by the gracious support of the backers that have pledged so far. It is because of them (and you) that we are able to continue doing what we love. There is nothing we want more in this world than to share our music with you*, and the fact that you have stepped up to help us means the world to us. Don't worry, we'll save the better speech for when (if) we meet the goal. Until then...

Well, that's all folks. We hope you enjoy the video, and the ones that will hopefully follow. Until the next marginally gracious blog absurdity...

*And to have hover bikes!

Fact of the week: Before mounting the mechanical bull, we watched several children give it a whirl. These junior rough riders were far more resilient than us, and were surprisingly dressed much better than us as well. We are trying to hard to make these new fashion statements stick in the Orlando area, but we just haven't had any luck so far. Maybe that's a hint to wear something wacky to one of our future shows...

Operation Sign Spinner

Hi everyone! It has only been a few days since the last update so we don't have much news, but we did get into some more shenanigans to thank those who got us to the $6,000 pledge milestone.

Tonight is our show at The Haven. Come out and have a beer with us! They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, we hope they're right because we don't have any more words right now!

Fact of the week: The members of A Brilliant Lie do not have any fun shooting these videos. We are strictly business all the time...

2001: A Space Odyssey, despite being a cinematic masterpiece, is in fact a remedy for this writer's insomnia.  Give it a try some time. If you can't sleep -and you have already seen the film- put it on, you'll be mesmerized by how quickly you drift into a deep sleep*. Coincidentally the title of this film is also the number of likes we have on Facebook as of this morning. Go us! Anyway, it's only been a few days since our last update, so we don't have a lot of news. But we do have a silly new video for you...

This is to thank those who helped us reach the $5,000 pledge mark on our Kickstarter. Another video will be released as soon as we reach the $6,000 mark and so on. In case you forgot; you will have one more chance to see us this Thursday in Orlando at The Haven on April 25th with Fusebox Poet, Stockholm, and Burn After Reading. We only have a week left so please pledge if you haven't already and share the Kickstarter video HERE.

*Warning! Strange dreams may follow, and you may suspect your alarm clock/cell phone of murderous sabotage in the morning.

Fact of the week: There is no "I" in A Brilliant Lie.

Cool fact of the week: Tim can Breathe under water.

Actual fact of the week: Facts of the week are difficult to write.

Interesting fact of the week: For years now we frequently speak in poorly executed German accents exclaiming "we play is ze rock bands". This joke has persisted pointlessly and for so long that we have forgotten it's origin.

Glass half full!

Hi everyone! We're into the third week of our Kickstarter, putting just over halfway until the closing date. Luckily we're a little over halfway to our goal, and it's all thanks to you. We are still very confident our fans, friends, and supporters will help us meet the total goal before the closing date. As an extra gratuity we've decided to begin our "Milestone Missions" campaign. Check out this video to see what this means*.

Anyway, the Awesome Florida Music Festival is underway. Please be sure to come check out the many bands an artists, some of whom have traveled from afar, to come perform for us Floridians. We'll be playing too...

We're contemplating some shenanigans for this years FMF, but we're pretty sure we won't be able to top last year's gag since we are putting everything we have into our next CD, sorry. If you can't make it out to the festival you'll have one more chance to see us in Orlando at The Haven on April 25th with Fusebox Poet, Stockholm, and Burn After Reading. If this blog isn't narcissistic enough we'd like to point out that we are almost at 2,000 likes on Facebook. Now that may not seem like much to most people, but to this writer it's like Yoda and Tyrion Lanister** had a two-on-two cage match with Willow and Gizmo. Get it? I mean cause it's TWO thousand likes? On second thought the fact that all the aforementioned characters are small might be confusing because their size has nothing to do with it. Maybe it's because we're a 'small' band hoping to make it big? Yes. That's it. Point made***. You can't stop a train in it's tracks while it's rocking and ROLLING! Well, that's all folks. Until the next rambling blog absurdity...

***How anyone reads our blog is a mystery to us.

Fact of the week: Once upon a time our singer, Tara and our bass player, Zach were in an Orlando-based band together called "Finding Mulder"...

What, we're you expecting some kind of silly fact to make you laugh? Well, too bad. ... FINE!

2nd Fact of the Week: Through a series of interactions with friends the members of A Brilliant Lie have adopted/been scorned with the following nicknames:

James Christopher Lane: "Topper"
Tara Lightfoot: "Beetle"
Zachary Teman: "Goatblood"
Yours Truly: "Lil' Baby Tim-Tim"

Explanations will not be offered.

Our Kickstarter has launched!

So it looks like we have finally surrendered our pride and decided to ask for your help on our next CD via Kickstarter. Please? Pretty please? What if we offer you really awesome perks? Please!? Fine, we'll guilt you into helping us!

If this makes no sense to you then you'll just have to watch our Kickstarter video, compliments of Orlando-based filmmaker and friend, Steven Shea. Where can you find it? Ask no more...

Please DONATE HERE and select from our perks, which we feel are pretty rad. Now that we're done begging* we can fill you in on some upcoming shows! It turns out we will be opening up for "Sorne" this Friday (April 5th) at The Social. We are super stoked to be opening up for this awesome band from Austin, TX. After this we'll be rocking the Wall Street stage of the Florida Music Festival on April 20th. We hope you come out to see all the great musicians. After that we'll be back at The Haven in Orlando with "Burn After Reading", "Stockholm", and our friends in "Fusebox Poet". We try not to make it a habit of spoiling Orlando with our company so much in one month*, but soon enough we should be disappearing into the studio to finish up our CD.  So you'd better stock up on live A Brilliant Lie grooves while you can! Well, that's about it folks. Thanks so much to those of you who have already backed our Kickstarter, and thanks in advance to all future backers and those who help spread the word. Please do us the favor of sharing/embedding the video wherever you can. Until the next blog absurdity...

*The kickstarter actually runs for 30 days so the posting will continue until we meet our goal, sorry.
*Bahahahahahahahaha

Fact of the week: During the shooting of the pillow fight demonstration in our Kickstarter video the "You" character, played by our friend Matt, actually had his lip cut open by a pillow. This is not a joke. We are glad that we learned the safety limits of pillow fighting so we can act within these safe boundaries when delicately combating the backer(s) that choose this perk. Be warned everyone, pillows can be lethal...

Yes, this is a real movie.
